Homestays

The wellness and safety of our students are of utmost importance. We acknowledge that the homestay experience is essential to the success of our international students settling in and enjoying their New Zealand life so we take special care and consideration when placing students and dealing with any homestay issues.

  • Three meals a day, including lunch.
  • Warm, comfortable bedroom.
  • Welcoming, supportive and caring environment.
  • A real Kiwi experience.
  • All homestays are selected carefully and are Police Vetted.

Our international students experience New Zealand life in our beautiful coastal and semi-rural location, and gain an exceptional education while living with local host families.  We offer a wonderful range of homestays; some are near the school, others close to the beach and shopping mall and some on farms and kiwifruit orchards.
We do our best to match our homestays with the needs of our international students.

The wellness and safety of our students are of utmost importance.  At Te Puke High School we know that the homestay experience is essential to the success of our international students settling in and enjoying their New Zealand life, so we take special care and consideration when placing students and do our best to deal with any matters if they arise.

Christin and the McBride Family

Christin was an international student from Germany.  She was an active student who enjoyed the outdoors and if possible wanted to have access to horses.
Christin was match with the McBride family, who lived on a kiwifruit orchard.  Necia McBride took great pleasure in being Christin’s homestay mum.  “We really enjoyed hosting Christin.  She was an active student, who  liked to get involved in our family.  We enjoyed many real ‘kiwi’ experiences together, including: riding horses, snow skiing, time at the beaches and lakes.”  The McBride family appreciated learning about another culture from Christin and a special bond was formed.

Charles, Joel and the Whiting Family

Some of our international students enjoy staying with a family with another international student.

Charles from Hong Kong and Joel from Germany stayed with the Whiting family.  Each student had their own room. They enjoyed learning about each other’s culture and doing things together with the Whiting family.  Sharon, their homestay mum  enjoyed sharing their home and life experiences with their international students, “we loved being a homestay family for the last two years and have had students from different countries.  We enjoy learning about other cultures, especially food!  We like teaching our students about our culture and getting them involved with activities at the weekend.”
