Year 13 Ignition Day

On Tuesday 30th January 105 Year 13 students arrived bright and early for the start of their final year of secondary education.

There was a buzz in the air as they caught up with each other, discussing their holiday adventures, how their exams went and what 2018 might entail.

Staff and students assembled in the hall to go over the programme for the next four days; the Ignition Day and Year 13 Camp.  Essentially, the purpose was to set the students up for a great year by building on the relationships within the cohort, with TPHS staff, and to provide our students with some of the tools and strategies they will need to realise their full potential in their final year of secondary schooling.

The first session of the Ignition Day was run by Jason from Lean In.  The main messages from his session were:

  • Everyone has influence over others.  Even if you do not want to, you still have influence over others and it is up to you whether your influence is positive or negative.
  • Whether you perform above or below the line in all aspects of your life depends on your attitude.  Being response-able (being able to effectively respond to different situations) and working hard.

The afternoon session included a series of Adventure Based Learning challenges in the Pool to get everyone working in teams and having a great time cooling off after a busy morning.
